UPCYCLING PROGRAM

We are excited to give our customers direct access to our workroom as an upcycling center for their damaged, end of life, or unwanted products. Globally less than 1% of clothing is recycled into new clothes. It is proven that your thrift store donations will overwhelmingly end up as landfill waste in the global south. This program seeks to keep good materials alive by establishing a direct and reliable pathway for their reuse. We determine the value of an object by the quality of its materials, not the brand name on its tag. There could not be a more direct way to affect our work, your donation represents a literal exchange of material value for labor, this is the only way to buy our products at a discount. thank you for your participation.

GETTING STARTED

We are currently requesting donations of 100% wool knit and woven products. We will work with a wide range of fabric thicknesses and colors so please don’t be shy. Materials must be clean and respectable.

HOW TO DONATE

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

You - Check the tags or perform a *burn test to verify the material is 100% wool.

You - Photograph each item in bright, indirect, natural light. Hold your phone 6” away from the fabric to capture the detail of the wool fibers in your photographs.

You - Take a final photo of all of your materials together to give us a better sense of what you will be sending

You - Find a box that is the right size. Measure it and fill out the order form.

We will review your order form and create a shipping label for you.

You - Print the label, tape it to your box, and send. We ship with USPS

We will confirm that your shipment matches the order form and email you a discount code.

We will break down your materials and sort them by fabric type, weight, and color. Finer breads like cashmere or angora will be set aside for dedicated projects. Your old materials will be used to create a new generation of innovative wool products. We guarantee a dignified second life for your donation.

*burn test - how to

Perform burn tests outside or somewhere with good ventilation. The fabric should be clean. Cut a matchstich sized piece of fabric from an inconsequential area - like an internal seam, the edge of a pocket, or a single loose yarn, . Hold it with tweezers and use a lighter to burn the tip.

Wool will curl away from the flame and extinguish itself when you remove it. It gives off a strong smell of burnt hair and leaves behind ash that will crumble softly when you touch it.

Synthetics melt as they approach a flame, they may continue to burn or melt after you remove it. When burned they produce a chemical odor that can sometimes smell sweet. They leave behind melted plastic that feels hard when you touch it.
